Derry prison to stay open

Magilligan prison in Derry is to remain open, according to a statement today.

There has been a question mark over it's future for a number of years, but a review of the prison system to consider requirements over the next 20 years concluded it should be retained.

The top security Maghaberry prison in Co Antrim and the Hydebank Wood young offenders centre in Belfast are also to remain open.
