Man questioned on toddler shooting

A man was questioned today by detectives probing the shooting of a toddler in Northern Ireland.

The two-year-old girl was asleep when she was hit by a bullet during the attack in the Garvaghy Road area of Portadown, Co Armagh.

A gunman had gone into the house at St John’s Court and fired several shots into the living room ceiling.

The child suffered groin injuries and was treated in hospital following the incident early yesterday.

Her father, another man and two other children escaped injury, police said

It is understood the child’s pregnant mother was not at home at the time.

Police today arrested a man as part of their investigation.

Detectives have also carried out searches of houses in the areas. The attack is not believed to be sectarian.
