Burnside makes Trimble government threat

The anti-agreement Ulster Unionist MP David Burnside has threatened to call an emergency meeting of his party's ruling council if David Trimble agrees to resume sharing power with Sinn Fein.

The anti-agreement Ulster Unionist MP David Burnside has threatened to call an emergency meeting of his party's ruling council if David Trimble agrees to resume sharing power with Sinn Fein.

Mr Burnside said rank-and-file unionists would not tolerate a return to government with Sinn Fein.

The Irish and British Governments, along with the North's pro-agreement parties, are currently seeking a way to restore the North's devolved political institutions, which were suspended after the UUP threatened to walk out of the Assembly and Executive because of alleged continuing IRA activity.
