Memorial mass for murdered postman

A special memorial mass is due to take place in Belfast later this morning to mark the first anniversary of murdered Catholic postman Danny McColgan.

The 20-year old father of one was shot dead by the Ulster Defence Association as he arrived for work at a postal depot last year.

Mr McColgan was getting out of his car at the Royal Mail office at Barna Square in the centre of the Rathcoole estate when two gunmen approached him.

His murder provoked a huge response last year as thousands attended anti-violence protests throughout Northern Ireland. A memorial plaque will also be unveiled at Mr McColgan's home in the Longlands estate.
