Belfast teenager undergoes pioneering vCJD treatment
A Belfast teenager suffering from variant CJD, the human form of BSE, has undergone pioneering treatment in an attempt to reverse the development of the illness.
The treatment, which has never been carried out on humans, involves injecting a blood-thinning drug directly into 18-year-old Jonathan Simms' brain.
The Simms family won the right for their son to receive the treatment during two High Court actions in London and Belfast.
