PSNI uncover loyalist arsenal in Carrickfergus
Police in the North have seized an arsenal of weapons and explosives following a 13-hour security operation on a loyalist estate in Carrickfergus, Co Antrim.
Pipe bombs, an under-car booby trap device, bomb-making equipment, bomb components and explosive powder was found during the search operation in the Castlemara area, along with a handgun and ammunition.
Police said the search was part of ongoing investigations into the feud between the mainstream UDA leadership and its renegade west Belfast commander, Johnny Adair.
The search was related to the shooting of 37-year-old Robert Ewart on Tuesday night in an attack linked to the increasingly violent feud.
