McCreevy order tighter financial controls

Finance Minister Charlie McCreevy has ordered all government departments to review and strengthen their financial controls in an effort to get batter value for money.

The move followed the publication of a report from a working group set up to examine the role, responsibility and accountability of the secretaries general and accounting offices within each department.
