Two men from West Belfast were charged today with assisting the murders of a civilian who worked on an army base in the city.

The two men who are both in their twenties were charged with assisting the killers of 25 year old David Cupples.

Mr Cupples was attacked and beaten on his way to work last week in Clifton Park Avenue in North Belfast. He was on his way to Girdwood Army Barracks when he was attacked.

He died on Christmas day and his funeral took place today at Tullycarnet Presbyterian Church. The two men charged were also accused of an offence in connection with the attempted murder of a senior loyalist during the current feud between rival factions in the Ulster Defence Association.

They were charged with withholding information relating to the attempted murder of UDA commander John Gregg between December 20th and 29th.

Both men are due to appear at Laganside Magistrates Court in Belfast tomorrow.
