Pensioner hospitalised after housefire

A 67-year-old West Clare man is this evening recovering in hospital following a fire at his home last night.

The blaze, which originated from an open fire in the man's home at Doonogan, Mullagh, caused some damage to the house at around midnight. The man received minor burns.

He was removed to Ennis General Hospital where he was treated for slight burns and smoke inhalation.

Two units of the fire brigade from Ennis attended the scene. Gardaí in Ennistymon are satisfied the fire was accidental.

The 67-year-old is in a comfortable condition in hospital this evening.
