NEHB plans special meeting to consider Bronagh tragedy

The North-Eastern Health Board is to hold a special meeting next month to consider the case of a baby girl who died in Cavan Hospital after her expectant mother was turned away from Monaghan Hospital.

A review by the board said the correct procedures were followed, but an independent report said the mother should have been treated in Monaghan as the baby's birth was imminent.

Bronagh Livingstone died in Cavan after being born in an ambulance during the journey from Monaghan, where maternity services were suspended early last year.

The NEHB's medical advisor has already offered his resignation over the matter, but the chief executive has refused to accept it.
