Govt to give publicans increased powers

The Government has announced plans to introduce legislation next year giving publicans greater power to deal with people who cause trouble on their premises.

The Government has announced plans to introduce legislation next year giving publicans greater power to deal with people who cause trouble on their premises.

However, people who feel discriminated against will be able to take their case to the District Court.

The changes are contained in the recommendations of the Commission on Liquor Licensing, which also called on the Equality Authority and publicans to devise a code of practice on access to licensed premises.
