IFI workers to march on Dail

Former workers at the semi-state Irish Fertiliser Industries are due to march on the Dail today in protest at the fact that the company's former Belfast staff received better redundancy terms than staff in the Republic.

Former workers at the semi-state Irish Fertiliser Industries are due to march on the Dail today in protest at the fact that the company's former Belfast staff received better redundancy terms than staff in the Republic.

More than 600 workers in Arklow, Cork and Belfast lost their jobs following the Government's decision to shut down IFI.

David Morris, a former IFI worker-director, said: "The Tanaiste made it clear that she wanted a fair and equal severance package for all and it has culminated at the moment with a situation where the workforce in the North have significantly greater settlement terms than the workforce in the south. That's unjust, inequitable and discrimination."
