Dublin priests come out in support of Cardinal

The Chairman of the Dublin Council of Priests has spoken out in support of Cardinal Desmond Connell and rejected calls for the Cardinal's resignation.

Fr Martin Cosgrove, said tonight that the Cardinal's integrity is widely recognised throughout the Dublin diocese and beyond

He also said that the two inquiries that are currently underway in Dublin, should be allowed to run their course.

Last week Cardinal Bernard Law of Boston resigned over criticism of his handling of sex abuse cases there, and many have since renewed their calls for Cardinal Connell to do the same.

Among those are Lisburn priest, Fr Patrick McCafferty, who this morning said that church leaders had shown wicked contempt for abuse survivors and should follow Cardinal Law's example, and resign.
