Fishermen's plight must be highlighted: FG
Fine Gael marine spokesman, Simon Coveney, is to march in solidarity with fishermen today in Castletownbere, Co Cork, to highlight the concerns of the fishing industry in the build up to EU negotiations on fish quota allocations next week.
Deputy Coveney said the fishermen's protests are necessary to emphasise the importance of the industry in Ireland.
"More than 5,000 families in Cork alone are dependent on fishing for an income. It is vital to raise the legitimate concerns of the industry in advance of the re-negotiation of the Common Fisheries Policy," he said.
