One arrested at Shannon anti-war protest

Gardai have taken a young man into custody at a protest at Shannon Airport this evening.

More than 350 people were leaving the rally peacefully when a group of young people split from the group and attempted to tear down railings.

Gardai then moved in and took one youth into custody. Earlier, damage was committed to a fountain on the property grounds.

It's not known yet whether the youth will face charges.

Protestors were rallying against the use of the town's airport by the US military.

The 'Grassroots Gathering' group arranged the protest.
