Seven injured in road accident in Co Offaly

Seven people have been rushed to Tullamore General Hospital following a serious road accident.

The single vehicle accident occurred shortly after 1am this morning on the Birr road in Co Offaly.

Several fire brigade units from Birr along with a fleet of ambulance crews from Tullamore, Roscrea and Athlone raced to the scene.

Two of the seven casualties, including the driver, are said to be in a serious condition.

It is believed the five men and two women are aged in their twenties.

Gardai are investigating the accident.
