An annual Christmas overnight city centre sleep-out charity event by schoolboys has been dropped this year because of the threat of violent crime on the streets.

Belvedere College in Dublin has staged the money-raising event annually for the past 15 years with students from the school voluntarily spending two nights fasting in the open air to demonstrate the plight of the homeless.
