A group of politicians today called on the Government to take a tougher line with foreign oil companies operating in Irish waters by introducing moves to favour the home economy.

The alliance, including Green Party, Sinn Fein and independent representatives in the Dail, backed by trade unionists, claimed overseas-based oil companies were benefiting hugely from generous terms and conditions attached to their exploration licences.
