MEPs call on EU funding for Irish flood victims
Irish MEPs have called on The European Union to set aside money for victims of flooding across Ireland.
The European Solidarity Fund was recently established to help flood victims in Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic and France.
Munster MEP Brian Crowley said this funding could be used to safeguard against further flood devastation in Ireland.
"This is a new fund which responds to the increasing number of natural disasters in Europe.
"The Government in fairness have already put in place emergency relief funding which is distributed by the Red Cross, but this could be an extra bit which could put in place mechanisms which could prevent flooding."
