The man shot dead in Limerick today was a nightclub doorman, gardaí have said.

The 34-year-old victim was shot outside his house in Mill Road, Corbally, as he arrived home from work just before 4am.

A number of shots were fired. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, gardaí said.

The scene has been preserved and was being examined today by a team from the Garda Technical Bureau.

The State Pathologist is also due to carry out a post-mortem examination.
