Ireland set to establish DNA crime database

The Government is to establish a national DNA data base for the first time to aid in the identification of criminals.

Plans for the move – together with other legal reforms to give greater powers to the police – were announced today by Justice Minister Michael McDowell at a graduation ceremony for new gardai.
