Ahern under fire over public spending cuts

Trade union leaders underscored their concerns about big public spending reductions at a meeting today with Taoiseach Bertie Ahern.

In separate developments, Mr Ahern heard of misgivings about the cuts within his own Fianna Fail party and was blasted by opposition speakers during a Dail debate on the issue.
