EU asked to provide emergency flood assistance

Irish MEP Pronsias de Rossa has called on the European Union to provide emergency assistance to people affected by last week's flooding in the Greater Dublin area.

Mr de Rossa said Europe should provide funding to alleviate the cost of repairing homes and businesses which were badly damaged.

"A lot of the long-term damage costs will be covered by insurance I'm sure, but the immediate need is for the European Union to demonstrate its solidarity with the people in Ireland who have been affected by these floods," he said.
