Call for penalty for abuse of disabled parking spaces

The penalty points system must include people who park in disabled spaces, according to the People with Disabilities in Ireland group.

The group says that it would provide a real deterrent to stop "the ongoing abuse" of accessible parking spaces by able-bodied drivers.

Chief Executive Michael Ringrose insists the current fine is too low.

He wants strong measures introduced to force people to respect those with disabilities.
