An Post hopes to restore Mayo deliveries today
An Post has said it hopes to restore mail deliveries in east Mayo this afternoon.
The service was halted this morning because 11 local postmen had refused to travel to the main post office in Claremorris to sort the mail.
The postmen said the company was not giving them enough money to do the sorting, a task normally carried out by postmasters.
An Post has asked its postal delivery staff to sort the mail themselves as part of a dispute with the Irish Postmasters Union.
The company said the 11 staff members responsible for the east Mayo deliveries have now agreed to sort the post and it will be delivered later today.
However, mail will not be delivered in Tramore, Co Waterford, because nine postmen are still refusing to travel to sort the mail.
