Belfast's top police commander Alan McQuillan has been appointed as acting deputy Chief Constable of the PSNI.

Belfast's top police commander Alan McQuillan has been appointed as acting deputy Chief Constable of the PSNI.

A Police Service of Northern Ireland spokeswoman said he would work as Hugh Orde's number two until the Policing Board's permanent appointment takes up office.
