Talks were taking place in Dublin today as fishermen stepped up protests over access to their fishing waters.

European Commissioner for Agriculture and Fisheries Franz Fischler was due to be told by angry fishermen’s leaders – whose members have been blockading ports in Co Kerry and Co Cork – of their opposition to European Union plans to permit unrestricted entry by foreign trawlers into the “Irish Box” fisheries area.
