Taoiseach urged to come clean about RIRA contacts

The Green Party has demanded that the Taoiseach reveal the whole story behind allegations that his Government brokered a ceasefire deal with the Real IRA after the Omagh bombing.

Party leader Trevor Sergeant said: "It's very important now that the Taoiseach, having gone a week trying to wriggle out of answering questions on his contacts and the Government's contacts with the Real IRA, come clean.

"We are all used to mealy-mouthed words justifying their actions from terrorists, but it does no credit to the Taoiseach to be engaged in mealy-mouthed half-denials."

A delegation of relatives of the Omagh bomb victims is due to meet Foreign Affairs Minister Brian Cowen tomorrow to discuss the alleged contacts.
