Ahern to defend Irish fishing waters

The Minister for the Marine Dermot Ahern says he will strongly defend the interests of Irish fishermen when he meets EU Minister Franz Fischler this Monday.

Blockades set in today in the southwest where foreign fishing vessels were not allowed enter or exit ports.

The protests follow a decision by the European Council of Ministers to open up the Irish box to other fleets.
