Morris hears further allegations against gardai

The Morris Tribunal has heard further allegations of garda involvement in the death of Co Donegal cattle dealer Richie Barron in 1996.

The inquiry heard today that a garda informer, Adrienne McGlinchey, claimed that Detective Garda Noel McMahon told her how two other gardai assaulted a man on the night Mr Barron was killed.

Ms McGlinchey said Mr McMahon told her that the two gardai came across a drunk person staggering on the road outside the town of Raphoe on the night in question.

Mr McMahon allegedly said that one of the gardai hit this man on the head with a metal object when he refused to get off the road.

Ms McGlinchey said she was subsequently asked to dispose of this metal object and did so by washing it in her bath and burying it in a forest.

Peter Charleton, counsel for the tribunal, said Mr McMahon has denied the allegations.
