McDowell to consult on Citizen Traveller replacement
The Minister for Justice says he intends to consult widely before setting up a replacement for Citizen Traveller.
Yesterday Michael McDowell confirmed that he intended to wind up the Department funded campaign after an independent review found that it was failing to better relations between the traveller and settled communities.
The Minister says he will think carefully about how to develop better relations between the two communities.
"I can consider now what new steps I can take to achieve the same result that Citizen Traveller was originally established to achieve," he said.
"What I want to do is to think very carefully what I want to achieve, to consult widely, and see what steps do in fact help improve relations between the travelling community and the settled community."
