100 complaints made against Rosminian Order
Gardai have sent almost 100 files to the Director of Public Prosecutions following complaints from pupils of a former industrial school in Upton, Co Cork.
The complaints, which gardai have been investigating since 1999, relate to 12 members of the Rosminian Order, which ran the industrial school for boys near Bandon for more a century.
Around 70 of the files sent to the DPP relate to alleged sexual offences and many of the accused clergymen are now deceased.
The industrial school in Upton closed down in 1966 following a fire.
The Rosminian Order, which has its headquarters in Dublin, has declined to comment.
