Minister to launch penalty points system

Transport Minister Seamus Brennan is expected to officially launch the penalty points system for motorists today, despite opposition from gardai.

The system, whereby points will be deducted from a motorist's licence every time he or she commits an offence, is aimed at reducing the death toll on Ireland's roads.
