CORI urges Govt to increase taxes
The Conference of Religious in Ireland has urged the Government to increase taxes to pay for improved infrastructure and social provision.
CORI, which represents more than 135 religious congregations, said Ireland must bring taxes closer to the EU average if it is to reach European standards in these areas.
The group said tax increases are the only viable way to fund housing, transport, education, healthcare and social welfare projects.
It added that any successor to the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness should prioritise economic development, social equity and sustainability.
