Gale force winds of up to eighty miles an hour have caused widespread damage across the country overnight.

Storm conditions have brought down trees and power-lines. Motorists have been warned of hazardous driving conditions with fallen trees and debris affecting many roads.

The ESB are working to restore power to around 30,000 households who have been affected overnight- the worst affected areas being Dublin and the south-east.

Iarnrod Eireann have said that many of their services have been severely disrupted due to the storms. A damaged overhead line has halted DART services between Malahide and Howth Junction until further notice.

Most cross-channel ferry sailings have been cancelled.
