Tanaiste pledges to cut insurance premiums by one-third

The Tanaiste Mary Harney has vowed to put insurance at the top of her political priority list for the next two years.

The package, titled Driving Insurance Reform includes: "The immediate establishment of a Personal Injuries Assessment Board (PIAB), a plan to implement 67 recommendations of the Motor Insurance Advisory Board and the setting up of a ministerial committee to oversee changes."

The Tanaiste vowed to chop insurance costs as jobs were being lost because of the high cost of insurance cover.
