Caution on roads over Bank Holiday

Twenty-seven people have been killed on the roads so far this year over Bank Holiday weekends.

There are added risks this October weekend, because of bad weather and reduced hours of daylight, and there are several appeals for extra care on our roads.

The Minister for Transport, Seamus Brennan says we can cut road deaths by taking simple advice, fasten your seatbelt, observe the speed limits and never drink and drive.

AA Roadwatch is targeting speeding, whilst pedestrians are the focus of the National Road Safety Council. They account for one in five deaths and they are advising people to walk on footpaths or to wear bright clothes and carry torches.
