BNFL say firefighter strike won't compromise security

British Nuclear Fuels, the company which runs the Sellafield nuclear plant, has insisted that safety at the controversial facility will not be compromised by next week's firefighters' strike in Britain.

In a statement released this afternoon, the company said Sellafield has its own fire and rescue service which employs 60 people at the plant 24 hours-a-day.

The statement said these firemen were not part of the union involved in the British strike.

British Nuclear Fuels said it has carried out safety inspections and risk assessments and was confident that Sellafield will not be affected by the strike.
