Vomiting virus spreads to Cork

The winter vomiting virus has spread to Cork, with 47 patients at the city's University Hospital showing symptoms of the illness.

Hospital officials have asked the public to stay away until at least next Friday in the hope of curtailing the outbreak.

Elective surgery has also been cancelled until Friday, while the public has been urged to contact their GPs rather than attend the accident and emergency ward.
