The Eastern Regional Health Authority has opened a temporary help and information line for people affected by clerical child sex abuse.

The service will help arrange appointments with social workers and counsellors and, if required, will advise on how to make complaints to the Gardai.

The helpline will be operated by the ERHA in conjunction with the three area health boards in the east.

The number is 1800 45 45 00 and lines will be open from 9.30am to 5.30pm from tomorrow until Friday.

The service may be extended, depending on demand.
