Gardai issue statement on clerical abuse

Gardai have issued a statement saying they are involved in talks with Justice Minister Michael McDowell on what course of action to take regarding the clerical abuse scandals.

The statement read:

"An Garda Siochana is aware of the widespread concern in respect of clerical abuse and has been in consultation with the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform today.

"We are researching the various issues involved and whatever appropriate response or response's are decided upon will be reported in due course."
