Slow turnout for referendum

The returning officers at polling stations say people have been slow to vote in the Nice Treaty referendum.

The polling booths opened at 9am, but so far there is no huge turn out.

Galway say it has been reasonably quiet so far while very few turned out to vote in Clare.

4.86% have voted in Westmeath, which officers say is normal at this time of day.

Cavan town's largest polling station was busy just after 9am.

Meanwhile, in Wexford the turnout varied from 3-10% and in Dublin between 8-10% have so far cast their ballot. Returning Officers predict the numbers will pick up as the day progresses
