The employers’ group IBEC has said that any wage increases agreed under a new national pay deal must be significantly lower than those contained in the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness.

In a move that is likely to anger trade unions, the group also said that some employers will be seeking a pay freeze, despite continually high inflation.
