The Catholic Church says it can find no evidence that the Treaty of Nice is leading to a common European Defence Policy.

Church: Nice doesn't threaten neutrality

The Catholic Church says it can find no evidence that the Treaty of Nice is leading to a common European Defence Policy.

However Chairman of the Bishop’s committee on Europe, Bishop Joseph Duffy, says this would have to be resisted at any time in the future.

The Church also says it does not believe the Treaty is a back door to abortion in Ireland, as EU member states are responsible for their own national abortion legislation.
