Yearlings attacked by intruder

Seven horses were attacked overnight ahead of Ireland’s premier sale, it emerged today.

The yearlings, stabled at Goffs at Kill in Co Kildare ready to be shown today and tomorrow to prospective purchasers at the Orby Sale, had parts of their tails cut off by an intruder.

The matter is being investigated by the local gardai in Naas, who are studying tapes from the closed circuit television cameras.

Nick Nugent, marketing director for Goffs, said: “There was no further damage done thankfully.

“It is indeed unfortunate but it’s a cosmetic blemish and their tails will grow back.”

The Orby Sale takes place on Tuesday and Wednesday.
