Group claims EU is corrupting defence policy
The Justice Lobby Group, AFRI, is claiming that the EU is corrupting Irish defence policy.
Professor John Maguire said a new treaty is needed that would include a binding protocol to exclude this country from taking part in or paying for new military arrangements such as a European Rapid Reaction force.
He was speaking at the launch of the groupās campaign for a No Vote in the Nice Treaty.
"We believe the only way to repel and cure the corruption of Irish foreign policy, because that has been corrupted over the last several years, is to have a protocol which takes us out of the EU Rapid Reaction Force and gets us back involved in the full spectrum of UN peace building."
