'Women for a Yes Vote’ launch Nice campaign

A new lobby group is claiming that women have benefited in particular from this country’s membership of the EU and should vote "Yes" in the forthcoming Nice Treaty referendum.

Speaking at the launch of ‘Women for a Yes Vote’ Independent TD, Marian Harkin, said rejection of the Treaty would stall the applications of those countries wishing to join the European Union.

"We are looking at including the accession countries, not just what is in it for us, though Europe has been very good to Ireland, but what is in it for them. We are looking at them as our new friends, our new neighbours, so that we can build networks within Europe."
