SIPTU rejects IGB claim of a new offer

SIPTU has rejected claims from the management of the Irish Glass Bottle plant in Dublin that they have made a new offer to laid off workers in an attempt to resolve the stand-off over redundancy payments.

More than 350 workers lost their jobs when the plant closed in July, but they were doubly incensed when the company refused to honour redundancy payments recommended by the Labour Relations Commission.

The Irish Congress of Trade Unions has organised a national stoppage this Friday to protest at this attitude and the treatment of other workers, laid off from the Peerless Rugs factory in Co Kildare.

Last night, IGB management announced that it had made a new redundancy offer to its former employees, but SIPTU said it has not received any such offer.
