Grandmother in bike bid for charity

An Irish grandmother was today preparing to ride 2,448 miles across the US on the back of a Harley Davidson.

Maureen O'Connor, 51, of Celbridge, Co Kildare, who has not been on a bike since she was a teenager, will set off tomorrow as on the eight-day journey from Chicago to Los Angeles.

The company owner got involved in the charity trip by donating €8,000 during an auction on a radio show last week.

She will be joined by 61 others in the challenge, who hope to raise amongst them €250,000 for Temple Street Children's Hospital.
