CIF urges Govt not to cut spending on infrastructure
The Construction Industry Federation has warned the Government not to reduce funding for infrastructure because of the deteriorating state of the public finances.
A report published today said employment levels in the industry will have fallen by 6.5% by the end of this year compared to the end of 2001.
The report also predicted further job losses in the medium term, something CIF spokesman Kevin Gilna fears could be a sign of cutbacks in infrastructure funding.
Mr Gilna said first-class infrastructure is central to attracting investment into Ireland and to economic growth.
